Jim Duncan Owner
In 1980 with 5 guitars of his own and a couple thousand dollars, Jim had an idea after being frustrated for years with the difficultly in obtaining left handed guitars. "Surely I am not the only one with this problem" Duncan quipped, reminiscing. So He began, if you will, building a field of dreams for the Left Handed player. "It was difficult at first because I was the only one out there with a music store specifically dedicated to lefties and many of the major companies were skeptical that a business like mine would be a success", said Duncan. After years of doing shows and massive mailouts, Southpaw is 900 guitars and thousands of customers strong with just about every major line. Jim is unsurpassed in his knowledge of left handed guitars and the left handed buying market.
Jim resides in Southwest Houston with His lovely wife Gilda. He is blessed to have several Grand Children and is also active in a local childrens ministry.
Larry Bararata Store Manager
No stranger to retail, Larry has over 20 years experience in Business Management. Because He labored in both hard-line and soft-line retail, Bararata understands that the sale, being a personal experience, begins at the point of conversation, carries through the field of discovery, arrives at purchase, and continues long after the transaction is completed. The consummate professional, Larry is responsible for bringing new Customers to Southpaw Guitars as well as maintaining a huge base of returning clients. Larry owns several high end left handed acoustic guitars and vintage pieces. When asked about his passion for managing the worlds only dedicated left handed music store, He replied, "I understand the plight of the lefty struggling to find guitars and am the hands, eyes and ears for left handed guitarists all over the world."
